Roberto Diago (1971, Holguin, Cuba)
Diago has received numerous national and international prizes and awards. As one of Cuba’s foremost contemporary artists whose works are frequently exhibited worldwide in Latin America, the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia, he often combines painting, collage and mixed media techniques; his themes frequently touch on his identity as a contemporary Cuban. He renders these with the use of symbolic and often primitive materials such as burlap, cardboard and raw wood. Diago represented Cuba in the Venice Biennale and his works can be found in prestigious private and public collections around the world, including el Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes Cuba, the Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation in Miami; and the Rubin Foundation Collection, in New York.
